A business trip. A weekend getaway. A road trip. The one thing common among them all is the hassle of packing. Fitting everything you will need for a trip, across different continents and seasons, proves challenging.
How to pack light and smart?
There is an art to packing and here are a few tips to make that process easier for you.
- Pick the right suitcase
It is of paramount importance to choose the right piece of luggage. If you are going away for a weekend getaway, a suitcase on wheels is the way to go. Yet, if you are going to indulge in any outdoor adventures or sports, a backpack is the right choice. Invest in a piece of luggage that is light when empty.
- Travel gear is worth the investment
A few different travel gears that will make your travel experience just that much better are:
a) Noise canceling headphones
b) Electronic adapter for your travel abroad
c) Comfortable travel shoes
d) Kit with containers for your toiletries
e) A pouch or a small bag for all in-flight essentials
- Weather Forecast
Check the weather forecast of the place you are traveling to, before you start packing. There can always be a surprise rain shower, but don’t pack your heavy jackets when warm weather is to be expected.
- Make a (packing) list
Think of the days you are traveling and everything that you would need. Make a list of the basics or lay it out (not in the suitcase) as you plan for your trip. Try to think of the morning-to-night routine and pack all that you use during a day. Pack clothes that you can mix and match. Overlap pieces that you can wear more than once.
- Roll them up
If you roll up your clothes, you can fit more in your suitcase. You will be amazed at how this even avoids getting them all wrinkled. You can roll up your socks and stuff them inside your shoes to save more space. Use lingerie bags for your intimates. Not only would you be protecting your delicates, but you would also have them handy and all in one place.
- System to packing
You know those awkward spaces at the wheelbase of your suitcase? Fill them up first and create a flat foundation for the rest of the layers to come. Put your bulky items, such as shoes and jackets at the bottom of your suitcase. But if possible, wear them on your travel days.
Traveling should be an enjoyable experience, especially if it is for pleasure. With these packing tricks, we hope you will be stress-free going into your trip. Take the time to plan ahead, pack right, and don’t forget to have fun!
